Meet the Students
Sophia and Anisha D.
"We are always encouraged to be leaders here, make new friends and appreciate the differences between all of us."
Spirited students, best friends and sisters
Not only are they full of Elmwood spirit, they are sisters with passion - passion for participating fully in Elmwood School life. Each sister is uniquely accomplished in her own individual right and is celebrated for this at home and at school. It is evident to all who meet them that Anisha and Sophia D strive for excellence in all that they do.
Anisha, the younger of the two, is a competitive dancer and is currently setting up a Jazz club for Elmwood’s Junior School. She is a member of the environment club and the Elmwood Student newspaper called the "Tartan Tattler". Anisha has won the outstanding student achievement award for three years in a row at Elmwood.
"Elmwood has taught me to make the most of my life and to strive to be the best person you can be," explains Anisha. "We are always encouraged to be leaders here, make new friends and appreciate the differences between all of us."
Sophia is the student leader of Amnesty International whose cause this year is supporting a Montessori School in Kenya. Sophia is also currently completing her silver level of the Duke of Edinburgh Program and has already started the requirements to finish her gold level, with an anticipated completion date of winter 2009. Sophia was selected to represent Finland as a member of Elmwood’s Model United Nations Team this year and is a proud member of the Elmwood Envirothon team, which has won the regional championships three years in a row! When asked about Elmwood, Sophia simply states, "I love Elmwood for its crazy and compassionate spirit that is truly contagious."
Both Anisha and Sophia believe that an all girls learning environment is the ideal one for them. They both speak of having the confidence to take risks and make mistakes and they both attribute this ‘freedom’ to being amongst only girls.
Sophia says "I am always reminded of the success of our school when I see the graduates each year, for the past 9 years, graduate as bright, confident young women, ready to make their mark on society in their own unique way."
Editor's Note: Sophia was voted Head Girl by her peers for the 2008-2009 school year. Having been at Elmwood since age 8, she has emerged as a leader with a strong sense of Elmwood spirit and is ready to take on the role of Head Girl with pride and confidence.
